Photo Shoot

I usually get photos done of the kids on their birthday until they start school. Once they start school, I usually get the school photos. Even if I don't like the school photos, I still get them! Well, TJ didn't inform me of photo day so I missed his sophomore year photo! Lily turned 4 in November and I didn't make it in to get her photo done! On a spur of the moment I made an appointment and went today. I know....it looks like "Let's just get photos of our adopted chilren." Hey, that's just how it worked out! The bio boys managed to get their school photos done this year! Anyway, here are some of the shots. Not bad for spur of the moment!

Third of three Christmas posts......

Well, one more photo of my favorite guy and one of my favorite girls!

Oh, by the way, it was 21 years ago today that I first met Tom! He was performing the wedding ceremony for his sister, Brenda. Brenda and I had become friends through my graduate school days as a Grad Assistant at Ashland University. It was an early afternoon wedding so we went out that night! It's been a great 21 years! In three more years I will be able to say, "I've been with him half of my life!" I am blessed....truly blessed!

A few more pictures...........

Here are a few more pictures. I'm not sure why some won't upload. At least you can see one of Lily with Joel! The other is of Sarah with me after the Preschool program. While Lily was mesmorized with Joel, Sarah stayed close to me! The last picture is of the girls with their caboodle of hair products and silly make up! I'll try one more attempt at posting the final pics and then I'm done with blogger tonight!

Christmas Trouble

Well, I'm having trouble posting photos from our Christmas. I can only get the photo of the boys uploaded. (Any bloggers out there having problems or is it just me?) We had several school and church programs prior to Christmas. I have some great photos of Lily with one of her classmates...Joel. Lily can not talk about Joel without simply beaming...it cracks me up!

Santa came early to our house...on the 22nd! He seemed to understand that it made our life much easier to do that since we had to leave town on the 23rd. The girls were so much fun! They were thrilled with the gifts that Santa brought. The boys were pretty happy, too!

We left on the 23rd for Christmas with my extended family. I have seven siblings so between all of us there were over 36 people there. We then spent a couple of days on the farm with Tom's family. Tom has two siblings, but there are 19 cousins....so another big celebration! I wouldn't have it any other way!

Finally.....the girls saw Santa!

I finally got to take the girls to see Santa! Lily looked him in the eye and went totally blank on what she wanted for Christmas. Sarah acted shy the entire time! I helped them get all of the words out! As we were paying for the picture, they asked if I wanted to donate to an organization that help families finance adoption. I said, "Now, how could I say 'no' to that?" They handed me a flyer and it was one of the ones I mentioned in a previous post...the one with Sarah's picture on it! The Santa's Helpers were thrilled to see the little girl on the flyer up close!

Singing and Snow

Sarah is so very proud of the song shw wrote! I'm so thrilled she knows that she is loved!

The pictures of the girls in the snow was last week...I'm just now getting around to upload them. I know some of you have looked for the Snow Run Challenge. The boys took off to play in the snow or to shovel drives so I didn't get around to doing it. I hear that we are getting some snow this weekend so maybe we'll have the challenge this weekend! I will likely have the girls join in, but they will be required to wear a shirt! Lily is starting to get sick so I may have to rethink that!

The videos were done the other day, just after the girls got out of bed. As you can see, they are still in their jammies. Plus, you can see what terrible condition Sarah's hair is in each and every morning!

Enjoy!

All I want for Christmas.....

A friend of mine in Indiana (shout out to Lisa Perry) was at the mall to take her kids to visit Santa and was given a this flyer. I was surprised that it included a photo of Sarah and a quote from us! Shaoahhannah's Hope is a wonderful ministry that works with families who feel called to adopt...domestiaclly and internationally. They were generous with us when we adopted Sarah by giving us a $2000.00 grant! We will be forever grateful to the many folks that have sent money to Shaohannah's Hope to allow them to bless families like ours! When I showed Sarah the flyer, she got a big smile on her face and said, "Look, it's me....Sarah Alexander!" Yes, through the miracle of adoption, Sarah is an Alexander! Like many who have adopted, we hear the words, "Oh, you are so nice to adopt" or "what a noble thing to do" or "You have truly blessed her by adopting her." I always think that they have it backwards! I often smile and say, "We are the blessed ones to have her!" Certainly we are!

Thank you Shaohannah's Hope for helping us bring Sarah home!

Catch Up!!!!!!!!!!!!

Tyler celebrated turning 15!!!!!!!!!!1
Sleeping Beauties!

The Famous Five!
Well, it seems like it is harder these days to keep up on our blog! Our life is simply busy!
Tyler turned 15 on November 21st! Time does fly! I remember our first Thanksgiving with Tyler. He was only a few days old. My mom came to help out with the transition. We had this wonderful video of our dinner that day....pre-feast. We then had another video of the remains...post-feast. My mom and I laugh to this day that the time between the first video and the second video was only 19 minutes! That Thanksgiving 15 years ago (me, Tom, my mom, TJ (18 months old then) and our newborn Ty was so different from this Thanksgiving!
We spent Thanksgiving at the farm in Holmes County. As some of you may know, the farm lost a barn to a fire several weeks ago. The barn has been in that spot for over 100 years and Tom's great-great grandpa. The barn, Dad's truck, two silos, plenty of hay/straw and some other things are gone. I think the silage was saved that was in the silos. Oh, the important thing is that the cows all got out of the lower barn and no one was injuried! Praise God! Something like this does put into perspective things that are important in life!
If any of you know the Alexander extended family, you know that it is big! We were all there for Thanksgiving dinner. We met at Julie's because they have the biggest table and the biggest house to spread out the family! Grandpa Thomas came down to join us. I think Grandpa is 95 now! Tom's parents, Larry and Carolyn, were there. Brenda (Tom's sister) and her huband were there with their three children....Brianna, Brandon and Bridget. We were there with our five...TJ, Ty, Dane, Lily and Sarah. Julie and Ron have eleven children....Tosha, Lateria, Chantrell, Britney, Gio, Alexis, Jonathan, David, Josiah, Marcus and Timothy. So, it was a happening place to be! We stayed for a few days.
We are now really busy with basketball and Christmas things. TJ is playing on the JV team and Lancaster High School. Tyler is playing on the JV team for Fairfield Christian Academy. Dane is playing on the sixth grade team for Fairfield Christian Academy. Needless to say, we are at a basketball 4-5 nights out of the week!
I added a few pictures of the girls. They were so excited to have the tree up...finally. They drove us nuts. Our tree used to seem so big to us! It looks very small now that we put five kids around it! I promised the girls that they could sleep under the tree ONE night before Christmas. Well, at least I got it over with! It was really a BAD idea.......fun, but bad! They didn't fall asleep until midnight. I didn't want them downstairs alone so I tried to sleep in the recliner. That didn't work. It was 3 a.m. and I was still wide awake thinking about how miserable I was going to be today! Tom came downstairs at 3 a.m. and took over so I went to bed. I don't think anyone has ever died from the lack of sleep so I'm sure I'll be okay! I did get some great photos at 2 a.m. though!
I will be posting something that my internet friend Lisa Perry sent me...waiting for a friend to scan it for me! Here's a shout out to Lisa for sending it to me! Oh, Lisa has two children from Yangjiang....the same orphanage that Lily is from. Thanks, Lisa...if you read this!

Happy Birthday, Lily!

It was just the girls at Annie's Tea House to celebrate Lily's fourth birthday...this was on Friday at lunch...the day before her birthday.
Sarah enjoyed the tea party, too.

Lily does a great job at holding her tea cup!

Sarah would prefer to bring her lips to the cup instead of the cup to her lips!

On Lily's actual birthday (the 17th) we allowed Lily to make her own cake!

Cleaning up the batter.

Sarah took care of her batter, too!

Lily had fun playing in the leftover batter.

Lily and her finished cake! We are glad we got it finished. We were getting close to bedtime by the time the boys joined us...thus the PJ's.

Lily
Be as the lilies of the field-
totally dependent on God,
growing in beauty and grace,
and secure in His love.

Happy Birthday, Lily!

Trick or Treat Fun

Well, the girls were so excited about going Trick or Treating tonight! Okay, I have five kids. I lost all costume creativity (wasn't that creative in the first place) after the first three kids. We made due with what we had in the house. Fortunately, the girls love to be a combination of Cinderella and any type of princess. They were thrilled! We go every year with the Johnson's. You'll see Hope (excaped convict) and Ruth (Belly Dancer) in the photos with another escaped convict (Dane).

Can I just say that I'm getting kind of tired of Trick or Treating? It's been 16 years!

Three Year Celebration of Lily!

Tomorrow will be three years since we first got our hands on Lily! The adoption world calls this moment several things....Gotcha Day....Metcha Day.....Forever Family Day. I don't really care what it is called! It is one of the most memorable days in my life....the day I first laid my eyes and hands on my daughter Lily! As Tom stuck the camera in my face that day and asked me, "How do you feel, Kath?" The only word I could muster up as I fought back tears of joy was, "good." To some that may seem like such a simple word with little meaning. Oh, but, I can't help to recall what we read in Genesis (Chapter 1, verse 31), "God saw all that he had made, and it was very good." So, "good" isn't such a bad word afterall.....I felt VERY GOOD!!!

Dane and Pleasant Moments

I've posted the above video before. Dane made the video when he was home alone one afternoon. This was the final video of six videos. The previous five videos showed his attempt to spin a plate on a stick and play the violin at the same time. Below is a video of him playing in a violin group this past Sunday. The song is "Pleasant Moments." It wasn't his favorite of the five songs they did that day, but I like it! A special thank you to Mrs. Thellar, our dear teacher. We appreciate her very much. Now, here is Pleasant Moments. Dane is the fourth kid from the left.

Hider, Hurler or Healer?

Okay, so I have been struggling with whether or not to copy and paste a writing of mine from several weeks back. I hesitated, but then I said, "It's my blog, I'll write what I want!" :) So here are my thoughts on being a hider, a hurler or a healer. What will you be in your life's circomstances?

Our church is going through a difficult time right now. I’m not so certain I know how it will all end up. I do know that God is sovereign and that He promises us in His word, “And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.” (Romans 8:28) Even through this difficult time, we will certainly see “good” when we get wherever it is we are going. Regardless of what happens here in the life of this church that I love so dearly, the main thing still remains the main thing, “Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever.” (Hebrews 13:7-9)

I remember hearing my husband, Tom, quoting someone who shared that people often fit into one of three categories: hider, hurler or healer. I’m not certain who had that original thought, but I find myself thinking of these three words as we go through this difficult time in our church. You see, our church is our family. We love each other deeply, but sometimes we don’t always act in the manner that we should to communicate that love to one another. I have been saddened beyond what many may understand. I have tried to challenge myself to ask the question, “What do you want to be? Do you want to be a hider, a hurler or a healer?” I have failed miserably as I have quickly filled the shoes of two of these roles, but find myself gearing up to be what I am called to be..that which is right, that which is good for the family!

It has been easy for me to become a “hider” at times. A hider “remains out of sight or tends to seek protection or evade responsibility.” Oh, how I have been guilty of doing that! It is not easy to hear the words of others that can either make you sad or angry. It is much easier just to stay in the comfort of your own home and avoid those that can say things that bring you to a place of frustration or sadness. Hiding is wrong.

I’m ashamed to admit that I have also been a “hurler” from time to time. A hurler is someone that “sends something with great vigor or violence; someone who throws forcefully.” The hurler I speak of hurls words that bring death, not life.

We read in Scripture, “Repeat these basic essentials over and over to God's people. Warn them before God against pious nitpicking, which chips away at the faith. It just wears everyone out. Concentrate on doing your best for God, work you won't be ashamed of, laying out the truth plain and simple. Stay clear of pious talk that is only talk. Words are not mere words, you know. If they're not backed by a godly life, they accumulate as poison in the soul.” (2 Timothy 2:13-15, The Message) Wow, poison in the soul! Words that discourage and tear down not only brings forth pain and suffering for those to whom we speak, but they become poison in our own soul!

We read in the The Message, "You have minds like a snake pit! How do you suppose what you say is worth anything when you are so foul-minded? It's your heart, not the dictionary, that gives meaning to your words. A good person produces good deeds and words season after season. An evil person is a blight on the orchard. Let me tell you something: Every one of these careless words is going to come back to haunt you. There will be a time of Reckoning. Words are powerful; take them seriously. Words can be your salvation. Words can also be your damnation." (Matthew 12:33-55) Words are powerful! Oh, I don’t want to be a hurler!

If I’m not going to be a hider or a hurler then I must choose to be a “healer.” A healer is, “one that heals, one that helps restore to health, one that restores to original purity or integrity.” With this situation with our church, I only want to help restore her to health in whatever measly way I can be used by God. What then is my responsibility?

I will speak the truth in love. Ephesians 4:14-16 (NIV), “regardless of what the person hearing decided to do with those words. Instead, speaking the truth in love, we will in all things grow up into him who is the Head, that is, Christ.” Regardless of what the person hearing decides to do with these words, I should be bold enough to speak them….in love!

I will pray. “Cast your cares on the LORD and he will sustain you; he will never let the righteous fall.” (Psalm 55:21-23)

I will trust. Yesterday I decided to set up a fitness circuit for the kids I teach at Fairfield Christian Academy. Sometimes when I set up a lesson like this, I like to play music as they move and play. The song, “I Will Not Be Shaken” really ministered to me yesterday. Those poor kids had to hear it over and over again as they galloped, skipped, hopped and ran! It is based on Psalm 62:1-3, “He alone is my rock and my salvation; he is my fortress, I will never be shaken.” The lyrics of this song are:

My soul finds rest in you, my fortress and my Rock.
My hope for life, my hiding place,
My refuge and my God.

In You I’ve found my home, my shelter from the storm,
And I pour out my heart to You, and lean upon Your throne.

I will put my trust in You.
I will put my hope in You.
I will stand upon Your word and
I will not be shaken.

I will let my praises show, holding on to what I know,
‘cause I know Your always there, I will not be shaken.

So, why be part of the healing? Are we not part of the same body? Why wouldn’t we want a totally healthy body?

Romans 12:1-5 says, “Therefore, I urge you, brothers, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God---this is your spiritual act of worship. Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will. For by the grace given me I say to every one: Do not think of yourself more highly than you ought, but rather think of yourself with sober judgment, in accordance with the measure of faith God has given you. Just as each of us has one body with many members, and these members do not all have the same function, so in Christ we who are many form one body, and each member belongs to all the others.”

Philippians 2:1-2 reads, “[Imitating Christ’s Humility] If you have any encouragement from being united with Christ, if any comfort from his love, if any fellowship with the Spirit, if any tenderness and compassion, then make my joy complete by being like-minded, having the same love, being one in spirit and purpose.”

I pray for a healthy body within the life of our church. We owe it to one another. We owe that to Christ. For His sake, I want to be a healer!

Number 32

Okay, well....it's brag time on TJ! TJ attends the local public high school. It is one of the larger schools in the state. TJ has always loved football and was thrilled to get a blue jersey for football practice. This meant that he made the varsity team. Only five sophomores got the blue jersey this year. He has started on special teams in most of the games and has gotten in a few times at Tight End. Most of his playing time has been in the JV games. A few weeks ago he was told that he may get a chance to start at Tight End. Last week, he did just that! He was so excited. I wasn't able to go, but Tom said he did a great job. Most of the plays TJ is blocking, but there are a few plays where he has a chance to catch the ball. Last week, none of those plays were used. This week, they used them! We were so excited for TJ! Know that we aren't techies so I am video taping the game while it played on the television today! Enjoy watching number 32!

Zoo Trip with Bolicia and Kade

Last week I picked up our friend Alecia (whom the girls call "Bolicia" or "Malicia" simply because they do) and her little guy, Kade. There are several great pics I've posted. Yes, the one is of Lily's first kiss with a boy! Kade was more of the aggressor, don't you think? I'm guessing he is like his daddy!

I'm not posting as much simply because life has been extremely busy for us.
